Merck Pharmaceuticals is one of the world’s leading science and technology companies, with a focus on healthcare, life science, and performance materials.

As digital transformation continues to reshape the healthcare landscape, Merck’s Directors of Digital & Data in the Mid-Europe region came together for a high-level strategic meeting. The goal: foster alignment, surface regional insights, and identify digital innovation opportunities across divisions.

Aligning Minds Across Borders

This organizational meeting needed to balance formality with flexibility. With senior stakeholders across multiple countries, time was tight and expectations were high.

The typical web conferencing tools felt too rigid—too many screens, too little opportunity for spontaneous interaction.

Merck wanted more than a meeting; they needed an interactive workspace that encouraged dialogue, not just presentations.

Where Strategy Meets Structure

Gatherly’s multi-room architecture and spatial video chat allowed Merck to structure the day with a balance of large-group briefings and small-group breakout strategy sessions.

Participants could easily transition between regional working groups, deep-dive discussions, and informal networking lounges.

With customizable floor layouts, the meeting flow was intentionally designed to mirror how executives naturally engage—starting with shared alignment, followed by structured breakouts for specific markets and priorities.

Stakeholders floated between discussions, dropped into key topic rooms, and regrouped for synthesis, all without needing separate links or technical setups.

The Outcome: Agility and Clarity

What emerged was a truly collaborative environment—one that respected the pace and priorities of busy leadership, while offering the kind of flexibility that remote collaboration often lacks.

Participants appreciated the autonomy to guide their conversations, while organizers used live analytics and attendance tracking to keep a pulse on engagement and progress.
